'The images do not concern themself with comparing old with new, as some rephotography projects do, but rather takes the past as a starting point to examine what is there now. In this case, a space formerly of social and economic use – the now defunct Adelphi Ironworks in Salford, UK., which is currently in a transitory phase as a temporary car park opposite the Adelphi Building, also featured in the image. This space is in a state of flux, it is on the threshold of becoming something else; but not yet. The idea of a threshold forms the basis for the concept of his work here, applying it to the way the image is seen and perceived – rendering the image to the point beyond which detail becomes too faint to be experienced. As such the image is ‘upon the threshold of a liminal space’ metaphorically and quite literally.' WF
